Edna Pualani Farden Bekeart was born and raised on the island of Maui and comes from the famous Farden Family of Puamana. She studied hula with her sister, Emma Sharpe, who studied with Kauhai Likua, a dancer of King Kaläkaua's court. Pualani has contributed to the worlds of hula and music through her years of teaching at the University of Hawai`i, Kamehameha Schools, and Holy Nativity School. She has written dozens of songs, many in collaboration with her sister Irmgard Farden Aluli, and continues to actively add to her award-winning collection. Her primary focus has been on writing songs for Hawai`i's children.
